Spruce planing shavings for equine bedding
Holz Span processes and supplies premium shavings in pure spruce for equine bedding. A deliberately lean range, two grades, and a single commitment: consistent quality and year-round availability, across Europe, for stables, breeding farms and resellers.
Not an ambition. The work Holz Span actually delivers.
Most of the shavings bedding on the market today still depends on local, seasonal supply — often derived from sawmill by-products or joinery offcuts — where the purity of the raw material and the absence of spores, fungi and bacteria are not guaranteed, and quality changes from one load to the next. Holz Span produces premium softwood shavings on a dedicated line: dedusted, additive-free, identical in every bale and with every delivery. Year-round, delivered where it's needed, across Europe.

Only selected European softwood
Holz Span selects exclusively pure spruce (Picea abies) from European softwood, chosen for its long fibre, low resin content and low dust once processed. It is virgin wood, not a by-product of third-party processing.
The choice of wood determines how the finished product performs: absorbency, service life in the stable, natural cushioning. This is why Holz Span shavings come only from selected virgin wood — never from generic waste or undefined blends.
Heat treatment
After processing, the shavings pass through a heat-treatment cycle. Controlled heat removes residual moisture, reduces the wood's natural biological load and keeps the product stable over time, even during long storage.
The result is hygienic, low-moisture shavings, stable batch after batch and ready to use even after long periods in storage.
Immediately after treatment, every batch goes through industrial screening that removes 100% of fine dust. It is an essential step for bedding suited to environments where the quality of the air the horse breathes really matters.
Distribution is handled on euro pallets or industrial pallets (on request), arranged into full loads on dedicated vehicles with a capacity of 38 euro pallets per truck. The standardised format allows predictable loading and unloading times at stables, breeding farms and resellers' warehouses.
Holz Span operates in 8 European countries, with deliveries guaranteed 365 days a year. The logistics network relies on direct transport from the production plant to the customer, keeping lead times predictable and planned even during seasonal peaks.
